Indeed, these were some of the first units to fall of Rio Grande's roster toward the end of its life in the mid-to-late 1980's. On one hand we have a newly revamped GP38-2 wearing a fresh coat of blue and white GATX leasing paint. On the other hand, we have a nearly pristine (former) Cotton Belt GP40-2. Gray and blue, what do you think? These units are just one set of switchers based out of Roydale on UP's Limon Subdivision. The railroad has two switchers (an SW1500 and an NW2) and about three miles of track to its name! However, there are a lot of industries to switch on those three miles. The switcher crosses west (to the right) over Ivy Street just north of I-70. The NW2 started life as Frisco 259 before turning into Burlington Northern 419. Sometimes, on the other hand, it can really work to your advantage! There have been quite a few afternoon thunderstorms in the Denver area the last week or two, and the water is building up in places.
