At Utah Junction, the train will stop and meet Amtrak 5. Amtrak will take the North Yard siding from Utah Junction west to C&S Junction. So, in Denver, a third P42DC (which is kept in Denver as a spare for just such situations) was added to the train. BNSF trains headed to or from the Joint Line cross the diamond (on one of the two main tracks). The Buck Main crosses the north end of the Joint Line, connection Union Station with Prospect Junction (and beyond). BNSF also uses the Buck Main to wye power. The fastest way to do this was via Prospect Junction and Union Station. From Union Station, the crew can shove the cars down to 36th Street. KCS 4008 came off the Moffat the day before on BNSF's Stockton to Denver trackage rights train. That third unit out is actually a DIC SW1500 in BNSF's New Image paint scheme. Looks like its time in Denver is up as the switcher was the third unit (and DIC - Dead In Consist), headed for Galesburg, IL.
