I also think that the reinterpreted Phase III scheme that has been applied to two units (AMTK 145 and AMTK 822) looks amazing. AMTK 822 was on the point of the Zephyr on this morning...I sure wish this is what ever P40 and P42 looked like when it rounded a corner! I grew up riding Amtrak in the 1980s when Phase III dominated. But there are plenty of people that prefer anyone of the other phases...including the current Phase V scheme. It has been awhile since I shot any of Amtrak's heritage units (particularly leading), so I was really pleased to learn that AMTK 822 was leading on this morning. It is actually the only one of the Genesis units sporting a heritage Amtrak scheme that I hadn't shot yet! Guess that means F40PH #406 (in Phase III) needs to be next on the list! Regardless, AMTK 822 still looks good on the point of the westbound Zephyr as it climbs from Coal Creek Canyon toward the east portal of Tunnel 1.
