However, there are exceptions...at least to some extent! BNSF runs a single Z-Train into and out of Denver. The ZDENCHI and ZCHIDEN consist of COFC and TOFC cars (including UP trailers). The ZDENCHI departs Rennicks Yard each morning usually around 8:30am. If Amtrak is on time, this is usually right after it departs. On this Saturday morning, Amtrak was running late. As a result, the Z-Train is approaching a restricting signal at west Irondale. It will have to wait about 15 minutes for the tardy Zephyr to show up. The train also just crossed the "Quiet Zone" grade crossing at 104th Avenue, visible in the background. Note the "W" and "QZ" signs track side. The "W" indicating a grade crossing is coming up. the "QZ" indicating it is indeed a Quiet Zone and that no horn is necessary. BNSF's ZDENCHI (Z-Train, Denver to Chicago) waits patiently in the siding for the late Zephyr to pass. The power on the Beer Run between Denver and Golden is no exception! A former Soo (now CEFX) SD60 leaser, a CEFX SD40-2 leaser, a BNSF SD60M, and a BNSF SD40-2 make for a great (orange-free) consist! The MRONY is on Main 2 and has an SD70ACe and an SD70M on the point. The Beer Run is sporting a colorful consist that includes two SD60s (the second an SD60M) and two SD40-2s. The crew just got talked by a red board for a Form B. New commuter rail tracks are being put in on the opposite (north) side of the tracks. The units had been put in storage a few years earlier. However, with a huge increase in power demand, BNSF has reactivated them and put them to work! I do seem to recall having an HO model in the Soo scheme, so maybe that is why! Here, this former Soo SD60 is now a CEFX leaser. After meeting the MRONY at C&S Junction, the MNYRO departed westbound. Here, it just passed the detector at MP 8.4 and is headed through the cut in Arvada.
