The new extension to the siding is now complete and fully in service. There are no grade crossing anywhere along the siding at Broomfield now. The conductor saw her with a camera and gave a friendly wave. You may notice the second unit has a bit of a different look to it. This is the first production ET44C4 I've seen! The ET44C4 is GE's Tier 4 compliant engine and, at the time of this photo, the only (new) locomotive legal to sell in the United States. I had originally wanted to get this shot more toward the middle of the siding, but a string of empty hoppers (that delivered coal to the Valmont Power Plant) blocked that plan. The power is entirely B40-8s, with two being the wide cab variety. The train just finished switching in Loveland and, after switching a little bit more in Longmont, the train will tie up. In addition to the lack of signals, there are multiple stretches of track that have reduced speeds. Atwood Street in Longmont is one of those. The track run down the median of the street, which one direction running on either side. Here, a local heads south down said median. Longmont residents that live on Atwood Street get exactly that. A northbound manifest proceeds down the median, offering a fair amount of horn when approaching each cross street. If you are looking at this picture in 2025, then this is most likely a common site. However, here in 2015, this was the first production version of this model I saw in person.
