East meets west at Leyden! The MNYRO (Manifest, North Yard, CO to Roper, UT) sits in the siding as its counterpart glides down the main on a clear signal. What you see here is essentially all the freight that UP moves over the Moffat over the course of 1-2 days!

UP has decided to reduce the number of manifests they run over the Moffat by increasing the lengths of the manifests and only running them every other day. The result so far has been long trains with a lot of power! This MNYRO (Manifest, North Yard, CO to Roper, UT) has nine units on the point (of which four were currently online) and one DPU on the tail end. In between were 110 cars that brought the train to roughly 7,000 feet in length!

A single C44/60AC brings up the tail end of the MNYRO at the first intermediate west of Leyden. This unit was once an AC6000CW with a 16-cylinder HDL prime mover with 6000 horsepower. However, as the high horsepower craze died down at the start of the 21st Century, UP replaced the prime movers with 12-cylinder FDL prime movers, giving them 4400 horsepower.

After meeting Union Pacific's North Yard-Roper manifest at Rocky, this BNSF Provo-Denver manifest took the siding at Leyden in order to meet the westbound Zephyr. A pretty good morning for this photographer as I saw three of the four manifests that typically run on the Moffat in the course of 45 minutes!

Running right on time, the westbound Zephyr meets BNSF's Provo-Denver manifest at Leyden. There was some very good dispatching on this morning at both DS-82 and DS-86 worked together to set up a couple of meets in which both trains arrived within five minutes of one another. In this case, the BNSF manifest had been stopped for less than 60 seconds when the Zephyr arrived. Just enough time for the signal at the west end of Leyden to clear up.
