Also at Plain are a pair of cars involved in a derailment a week earlier. They have been sitting on the siding (making it unusable for meets) ever since. Later in the afternoon, the West Local would come up to Plain and move the cars from the siding over to the House Track, finally freeing the siding up for DS-82. Turns on the train was headed directly into the sun at this point, so neither side would have been ideal. Ah well! An empty "blade train" heads west at the grade crossing at Blue Mountain. These flat cars are specifically used for hauling the blades used on electricity-generating windmills. As it turns out, these particular cars are headed for the siding of Dotsero to be stored. As traffic levels on the Moffat have decreased, more sidings are being used for the storage of cars. Growing up with Rio Grande (whom only owned EMDs), they are still my favorite. I particularly like the SD70M (both of which you see here).
