The westbound Zephyr winds its way through the S-Curve near the west end of Eisele (Clay). Meanwhile, a UP MOW worker with his hyrailer on the siding performs a roll by. Once clear of the west switch, the hyrailer is going to get track and time and follow the Zephyr all the way up to East Portal at the Moffat Tunnel.

At the west switch of Eisele (Clay), a typical pair of P42s lead a baggage car and six Superliners, one shy of the seven that tends to be the standard on the Zephyr these days.

This is why the Zephyr is such a spectacular ride! Not a lot of Amtrak routes that offer views like this. The westbound Zephyr is just emerging from the shortest tunnel on the Moffat, Tunnel 29. The tracks parallel South Boulder Creek, which is getting close to the same elevation as the tracks here.

Passengers in Amtrak's Sightseer Lounge car are no doubt enjoying the amazing view here at the west end of the Tunnel District as the train emerges from Tunnel 29 on its journey west.

The westbound Zephyr crosses over South Boulder Creek just west of Tunnel 29. Around the bend, the train has a clear (green) signal at the east end of Cliff.

About 36 miles west of Denver Union Station, the westbound Zephyr is nearly 8,000 feet above sea level as it passes a green signal at the east end of Cliff. The Continental Divide stands tall, still largely covered in snow, to the west. The photography, yours truly, stand high on a rock, watching the Zephyr pass by below.
