A few years ago, these scene would have shown this oil train crossing underneath I-70. A major construction project has demolished the bridge (known as the "elevated deck") that I-70 used to run across and I-70 now runs through a trench in this area, with the tracks at the north end of the 36th street yard now crossing over I-70.

At Sandown Junction at Ulster Street, a UP oil train heads east on Main 1 alongside RTD's A-Line that connects Union Station to Denver International Airport. This entire corridor has changed quite a bit in the past decade as RTD's commuter rail was built up. As part of the agreement to acquire some of UP's land, RTD paid for the addition of a second main track and installation of CTC through here.

An eastbound UP oil train crosses over Sand Creek as it also passes underneath Central Park Blvd. 35 years ago, this was the location of Stapleton International Airport, the main airport serving Denver at that time. Today, the area is a mix of commercial and residential.

There is a small hill located toward the east end of the siding of Mesa that trains, whether eastbound or westbound, have to overcome. This eastbound oil train has crested the hill and is heading east out on to the open plains of the Limon Sub.

A trio of UP GEs lead a westbound coal empty on Bypass 1 just east of C&S Junction. This is a scene that was far more common 15 years ago. Today, it is more common to find oil trains on Bypass 1 and 2, but coal trains still occasionally show up, such as on this day.
