I was really happy all the things fell in to place to get this shot. At first, you might ask what is special about it. UP's MGJNY is headed east on the main at Rocky, which by itself is not anything unusual. However, if you look toward the top of the frame, you can see the head end of a westbound oil train approaching Tunnel 1, nearly six rail miles to the west! The two trains met at Eisele (Clay), allowing for this to be possible.

Sometimes, you have to go wide! A nice wide shot of the valley around Rocky and the front range of the Rockies seemed perfect for this snow covered scene.

Three units lead UP's thrice weekly manifest from Grand Junction to Denver, the only regularly scheduled manifest UP still runs on the Moffat. The train passes through the OS at East Rocky. One thing I never quite understood about East Rocky. When UP added their control point designations, East Rocky was given CP DS016. However, it is much closer to milepost 17, so it seems like CP DS017 would have been more logical.

UP's MGJNY crosses Kipling Street on its way in to Denver. While it is not okay to see the mountains in the distance covered in snow, it is a little less common to have the near-foot of snow we have on the ground. Makes a fantastic winter scene as the train rolls through Arvada.

UP's MGJNY heads east across the fill between Kipling Street and 66th Avenue. Oberon Road is on the left side of the fill, while Oberon Lake #1 is on the right side of the fill.

A single SD70AH brings up the tail end of the MGJNY. The back half of the manifest is composed of some classic (or perhaps, relic) open coal hoppers. All loaded with coal.
