Of the six units on the point, only three were orange. Two Warbonnets and a Dark Future CSX SD70MAC rounded out the power. I thought it somewhat ironic that the CSX unit was the only EMD unit as CSX has been almost exclusively a customer of GE since the 1980's. While you wouldn't guess it from the snow falling in this picture, it was actually only partly cloudy and dry just seven miles up the canyon at Crescent. It was interesting hearing both trains approaching, but not being able to see either until they were within a few hundred feet due to the fog. The clouds were hanging very low to the ground on this April Sunday as an eastbound BNSF manifest rounds the corner near the west switch of Crescent. The dispatcher let the train know they could go retrieve a spare unit from Castle Rock or have a manifest behind them cut off their power. I had to leave before hearing what the final resolution was. An interesting thing happened just after this shot. The conductor on the train came down and opened the nose door, clearly with the intention of trying to screw up my shot. I've heard of crews doing that before, but this was my first (personal) experience with it. At least I got the good shot before they did that!
