That's gonna leave a mark. The handbrake on this covered hopper failed to get set. The hopper was on the BNSF Golden Branch (that leads to Coors) and ended up rolling east down the line! It was going roughly 45 MPH when it hit the switch at C&S Junction and derailed. What looks like snow in the foreground are actually little plastic (non-toxic) beads, which the hopper was carrying. The crew on the train have received a "Box 13" on their track warrant, indicating that they can leave the north switch of the siding in the reverse position. This is because the tracks used to be two different (main)lines, owned by different railroads. Here, the QDENTAC is on the siding, which is several feet higher than the HLAUDEN on the main. The crews of both trains talked to each other to time the meet as well as they could. The QDENTAC is 6,700 feet long and the HLAUDEN is 7,700 feet long. This doublestack train is one of the longest that runs in the Denver-metro area. Originating at the Rennicks Intermodal Facility in Denver, the train is headed for Tacoma, WA.
