This is a unit that you can find in the photo gallery a week ago. However, being one of only five "crew cab" GP50s, it seemed worth while to post another picture of it. The nose on these units was shortened to offer space in the cab for two more crew members.

A peaceful look at some of the power sitting around the engine facility. Looks like BNSF 5396 had some damage repaired recently. The sun really makes the Executive scheme on BNSF 9798 look good...but who the heck left the door open!?

I know this isn't the only picture I have of this unit in the gallery, but this GP10 is one of only a handful left on BNSF's roster. It is a fair bet that it will be retired sooner rather than later, so I grab as many shots of it as I can!

Idling away next to The House, this freshly painted SW1500 shows off its New Image paint scheme. At the time of this image, this was the only SW1500 to receive the New Image scheme.

This shot offers an interesting comparison of paint schemes. The lead unit - A C44-9W - sports the Heritage 2 scheme. This is still the most dominate BNSF scheme on the railroad. Next up is a second C44-9W, but this units wears the original Heritage scheme. Last but not least is an ES44DC with the New Image scheme. The train is at milepost 4.25 on the Moffat Tunnel Sub.

A westbound BNSF trackage rights train carries an interesting train symbol with it. The train is the MAKRPVO - the Akron to Provo manifest. First time I had ever heard of this particular train on the Moffat. Sometimes, BNSF will stage trains outside major yards and use the staging location as the originating terminal in the train symbol. I suspect that may have been the case here.

The Valmont coal empty is coming close to the end of its trip (this time around) on BNSF. The train is about to pass underneath US-36 (near 112th Avenue) as it proceeds toward Denver. Once in Denver, the BNSF SD70MAC will be removed and the train will be turned over to UP. UP will take the train west to a Colorado mine. The train will come back to Denver, will be turned over to BNSF, and the process will repeat.

After picking up the empty hoppers from the siding at Boulder and the siding at Stazio, the southbound Valmont coal empty passes through Louisville and is about to pass underneath 95th Street. Longs Peak stands tall in the background, above the lead unit.

A roster shot of an SD60M that wears a one-of-a-kind paint scheme. When BNSF was first formed in 1995, two unique schemes were tested. The first scheme is on BNSF 9647 and bears the nickname the "Vomit Bonnet". The scheme featured here was a prelude to the original Heritage Scheme. The scheme is actually slightly different on each side of the unit. The (small) blue stripe shown on this side of the unit is absent on the other side.

The oldest (orange) BNSF paint scheme meets the newest (orange) BNSF paint scheme! BNSF 9297 wears a one-of-kind paint scheme - a prototype for the original Heritage scheme - and leads a New Image unit on the point of a unit tank train.

One of only five "crew cab" GP50s to ever be built, BNSF 3160 was the second of two units switching BNSF's 31st Street Yard on a gloomy, overcast day. Amazingly, I have two of the five units (as of this photo) captured! Here is a link to BNSF 3159, which came down the Front Range Sub in November 2006.

The day started with sunny skies and descent temperatures. By the time the HKCKDEN was approaching Walnut Street, however, it was freezing cold and rain was falling! A good looking consist led the Kansas City to Denver manifest, with one of only 25 C41-8W on BNSF's roster (as of the time of this photo) on the point.

Certainly not the best lighting on this overcast December afternoon, but a shot worth taking nonetheless! The Beer Run is coming into the 31st Street Yard with some very interesting power. A cascade green SD40-2 leads up a warbonnet C44-9W, a white face GP30 (now a GP39M), and a H1 B40-8.

Having not been painted in at least 12 years, some of the older Santa Fe units are really starting to look a bit tattered! Take, for instance, BNSF 2475. Built roughly 45 years ago, this GP30 has been rebuilt and is now designated as a GP30u. Wonder how this will look in the New Image paint scheme!?

I'm not a huge fan of the "New Image" that BNSF has adopted...however, I will say that this recently-painted SW1500, switching at BNSF's 31st Street Yard in Denver, is pretty sharp looking!
