The train has spent half the summer months running from Denver to Salt Lake (and vice versa) via Wyoming due to maintenance on the Moffat. And I was reminded of exactly why this year. Traveling on US-85 can be extremely aggravating at times. Some people will pace UP 844 and block traffic behind them. On this evening, I was one of the those being blocked. This pacing shot (which is by no means one of my best) was the closest to the head end of the train I could get from La Salle all the way down to Brighton! UP 6936 is a DDA40X built in January 1971 and is just shy of 100ft in length. The unit was used as a backup (and for dynamic braking) on the Cheyenne Frontier Days train. The Ringling Brothers circus train is just shy of a mile in length. The train carries all the performers, all the animals and all the equipment for the show from city to city. Here, the train is just passing through Denver as it runs from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas, NV (via Cheyenne and Salt Lake City).
