The Big Boy always attracts quite a crowd and I did not want to get stuck in traffic on US-85! Here, the train is crossing over the South Platte River amidst some very nice fall colors on a pleasant Wednesday afternoon. UP 6230 was delivered in May 1995 as SP 150. The train is also passing by the Suncor oil refineries. In the world of expensive Tier-4 compliant units from EMD and GE (Wabtec), most railroads are starting to focus money on rebuilds rather than new planes. After the rebuild, UP 5872 also got the latest UP paint scheme, moving the American flag from the long hood to the nose, and removing the wings from the front of the nose entirely.
