Following on the heals on the MDVGR, the MNYNP is on the approach to Hazeltine with a clear signal. The five units are reasonable, as there are 113 cars on the train!

A work train that came out of Cheyenne is holding in the siding at Hazeltine on its way into Denver (North Yard). The train is waiting for the MDVGR and the MNYNP, both of which came out of Denver at almost the exact same time.

Just south of the siding of Hazeltine, UP's Denver, CO to Green River, WY manifest has a clear signal. 93 cars are being pulled by two SD70Ms.

UP's daily North Yard to North Platte (MNYNP) manifest is heading north on the Greeley Sub near 96th Avenue. The train is usually a pretty good length and today is no exception! The three units on the point are lead 106 cars on their way to the largest rail yard in the world.

UP's daily North Platte to Denver (MNPDV) heads down the main line on the Greeley Sub just north of the "Adams Hold" signal. This picture was taken along Fairfax Drive near 69th Avenue.

This is an interesting angle that I hadn't shot from before. Along 69th Avenue, at the location known as "Adams Hold" (for the hold signal found on the Greeley Sub here), the northbound MNYNP-24 is rolling on a clear signal, Denver's unique "Cash Register" building clearly visible in the background.

This 52-car MNPDV-02 (if my counting is accurate!) left North Platte, NE a day earlier and is seen here coming down the inbound track to UP's 36th Street Yard off the Greeley Sub. A day later, this same power would be used on the MDVNP and return north.

Just north of the absolute hold signal - called Adams Hold - this southbound MNPNY-06 is "slow rolling" toward UP Junction just south of Sand Creek. The train is being led by an SD60M, two SD9043MACs and an SD60.

This is a picture that had to come sooner or later. It is very likely that this will be the last picture I ever post on my website (in the 21st Century anyway) of an unpatched Rio Grande unit on a mainline (instead of in a museum). DRGW 5371 heads north on the MNYNP-08 to Cheyenne, where it will presumably be retired....farewell old friend!

At the south switch of La Salle, the northbound MNYNP-08 has a clear signal as it continues to charge north toward Cheyenne. Once in Cheyenne, the sixth unit (DRGW 5371) will be set out, presumably so it can be officially retired. Where it goes from there, nobody but UP is certain for now!

Not far south of the south switch at Brighton, the MNYNP-08 comes to a stop to wait for a southbound to meet at Brighton. The MNYNP-08 is over 7,300 feet long and it won't fit in the siding without blocking crossings in town. Meanwhile, DRGW 5371 sits as the sixth unit, looking pretty darn good while it waits!

On the mainline at Hazeltine, the MNYNP-08 is rolling north at track speed with DRGW 5371 in tow as the sixth unit. While the 5371 is not DIC (it is idling), it will not load and thus is not doing any "actual" work.

One of the newest additions to UP's roster - ES44AC #5298 - leads this southbound MNPNY at Hazeltine. The train is just finishing up a meet with its counterpart, the MNYNP, and is now waiting for a second northbound before it will "get the nod" from DS-86 to continue toward North Yard.

A panel on the battery door of UP 4357 is in primer gray for some reason. This manifest - the MGRDV - is about to enter UP's 36th Street Yard, which is scheduled to be moved north to the Fort Lupton area sometime in the 2009-2010 time frame. Two strands of baretables (empty TOFC cars) are tied down off to the right.

Just outside of UP's 36th Street Yard in Denver, the southbound MGRDV is approaching on the inbound main. Commerce City's oil refinery can be seen protruding up in the background.
