Normally, I would never include a picture in the gallery with such an obvious and glaring eye sore obstructing the subject of the photo. However, considering it was the Rio Grande Heritage Unit (and considering it may never be at DUT again), I took the shot! Unit was on track four at the station for the Wheels and Motion Transporation Fair.

Yard Shots Union Pacific, Rio Grande
On a rather dull and overcast day, the sun was nice enough to come out for a few minutes right as I came across the Rio Grande Heritage Unit sitting amongst a string of power in North Yard.

UP 1989 sits amongst all the power in North Yard preparing to lead the MNYPU south later on this evening well after sunset. If you look closely, you'll note two patched DRGW GP40-2's near the top right side of the picture.

Amazing the things you sometimes find when you least expect too! It has been about four years since UP replaced the old Rio Grande signals (and control boxes) at Crescent with all-new equipment. Today, while scouting up around Pactolus (between Cliff and Rollins), I noticed the signal control shed for Crescent sitting about fifty feet away from the tracks amongst some trees!

With the work window currently keeping the Moffat closed up the hill, the Rocky Local does not need to worry about meeting any eastbounds as it enters the block on the main at Rocky. Just up ahead, the train will stop and back up the Rocky Spur to deliver its five hoppers.

The Rocky Local is currently being led by three GP40-2's. The first and third units are patched Rio Grande (UP 1445, ex-DRGW 3129 and UP 1344, ex-DRGW 3121) and the center unit is unpatched Espee GP40-2 7954.

Taking the siding at Crescent to await an eastbound coal load, the MNYGJX-06 crosses the grade crossing as the train it is meeting is (literally) just around the corner.
