Just north of Perry Park Avenue in Larkspur, a southbound BNSF coal load is stopped while waiting for a southbound further ahead to start moving. Often times, due to the single track through Colorado Springs, trains on either side of the single track can get backed up.

The Colorado Springs local appears to be staged and ready to roll at Colorado Springs. I thought it was interesting to find a caboose cut into the consist two cars back! UP 1350 was DRGW 3100 until January 2006. It was one of the last GP40-2's to get patched.

Who would have thought that such a sign could still be found in 2007? At Crews, the southbound main breaks away from the northbound main (it is the diverging route). Temporarily, both tracks are owned by BNSF. Once on the original DRGW alignment, the southbound main switch ownership - today it goes back to UP. Once upon a time, it was (of course) Rio Grande. This sign still stands at Crews, showing the old ownerships.

Just south of Crews, this northbound manifest is slowing down on a yellow signal. The train will have to hold up at Crews for nearly an hour while waiting for Maintenance to clear up ahead.

About eight miles north of Bragdon, this BNSF manifest is moving quickly on Main 2 headed for Denver. It had a great consist...I particularly liked the GP60M second out!

The 120 mile trip from Denver to Pueblo is complete. UP 844 is stopped at the depot to allow its passenger to detrain and attend the Colorado State Fair.

Nearly 109 miles south of Denver Union Station, the Colorado State Fair Express passes the famous triple-signals at Bragdon. Bragdon is where track warrants end and CTC starts (for trains headed south). The special is staying on Main 1 which is BNSF owned and dispatched. The next track over is the Bragdon siding, also owned by BNSF. The last track to the right crosses trains over between Main 1 and Main 2.

It was an unusually hazy day in the Colorado Springs area the morning of the Colorado State Fair special. UP 844 has the train well in hand just south of Crews. Pikes Peak is just barely visible in the distance above UP 844. The northbound main is visible in the lower-right corner of the image.

At Crews, the Colorado State Fair special left the single track mainline behind and again hit Main 1 for the duration of the trip to Pueblo. The double track started just to the north in this shot.

I took many photos of UP 844 on the Colorado State Fair special, but this one turned out to be my favorite shot. It is around 10am and the train is just about to pass underneath the road to the north entrance to the Air Force Academy.
