A close look at the cabs of two brand new units. BNSF 5851 was delivered within the last six months and BNSF 9376 came onto the property in early April.

In the near future, this may well be the site on all BNSF coal trains. On the left, an ES44AC sits on the end of a coal train tied down on Main 2 while an SD70ACe sits on the end of a different coal train tied down on Main 3, both at Evans Street in South Denver. The track in the foreground is the southbound track for the Regional Transportation District (RTD's) Light Rail.

A new ES44AC sits as the last Distributed Power Unit on the back of a northbound coal empty at Evans Street on Main 2. The train was tied down awaiting a new crew.

A brand new ES44AC leads a northbound coal train into Denver off the Joint Line near MP 0.5. There is a lot of construction going on in this part of Denver right now!

Palmer Lake is not quite as high as it usually is, but the east shores of the frozen lake make for a nice foreground for the Denver to Barstow train heading south in the background.

Spruce marks one of three locations on the Joint Line where ownership of the two main tracks changes between UP and BNSF. BNSF 4479 is just moving down into "the sag" as it changes from BNSF-owned track to UP-owned track on main one.

Sometime, when you are out on the Joint Line, you can get lucky enough to get a southbound and a northbound in the same shot. Such was the case on this day as BNSF 4479 (on the former ATSF grade; main one) "meets" with a northbound manifest (on the former DRGW grade; main two) just south of Larkspur.

If you are familiar with the bridge on the southbound track still labeled "Santa Fe" to this day (just south of Larkspur), then you know right where this picture was taken! The covered hopper visible just behind the box car is just coming over that bridge.

Under hazy thin clounds, BNSF 4479 south makes its way through Castle Rock. Another half mile down the road, and the train will be running parallel to I-25 and its Frontage Road for the next five miles on the way toward Larkspur.

Sedalia marks the location where the two mains change ownerships. BNSF 4479 is passing the crossover between the two mains as it moves from UP-owned track to BNSF-owned track.

Southbounds headed ofr the Joint Line will often request a track warrant when they are at Walnut Street. Walnut Street intersects with the tracks directly underneath Auraria Parkway, just barely east of I-25.

The MDENBAR-29 (Denver to Barstow, left) is slowly heading south on Main 1 while a southbound coal load sits without a crew, tied down in the siding just north of Walnut Street.

About 10 miles remain on its 10,000 mile journey! The hydrotreater on board came from Italy and is destined for the Suncor oil refinery in Commerce City. This was the last I saw of this train as it was getting late in the day.

The Westinghouse Electric Corp Schnabel car doesn't even come close to fitting on the bridge over US-85 in Littleton! Make you wonder if the cars on US-85 even gave a second thought to the rather unusual load...

At Titan Road, the train carrying the hydrotreater is in the home stretch on its long journey! It has taken the train 19 days just to run from Houston to Denver. Not a simple operation by any stretch of the imagination!
