It was great to see them again on this morning, heading west at Crescent. You can see Gross Reservoir to the right, slowly getting taller as part of a project to triple the water capacity of the reservoir. From this vantage point, you can see the east end of Crescent, the grade crossing at Crescent, and Gross Reservoir in the distance. Tunnel 17 is the longest tunnel between Denver west to (but not including, of course) the Moffat Tunnel. Note the two private cars (Patrick Henry cars) on the end of the Zephyr. The westbound Zephyr departed just a few minutes late and is on its way west in Barbara's Gulch. Not quite sure why DS-378 held BNSF on the main rather than routing them into the siding. At this time of year, there currently is no creek at all. It is entirely dried up! Something of note with the power on the train is the fact that both of the first two units once sported scarlet and gray, as they were both once rostered on Espee's roster! The control tower you see in the distance is not that of Denver Internal Airport, but rather Colorado Air and Space Port, a public airport located less than 9 miles southeast of DIA.
