However, the train is currently stopped as it is unloading its passengers. In the distance, you can see a few runs at Mary Jane, the more advanced runs at Winter Park. The two prominent runs in the upper right are both blue/black runs. The one to the left is call Hughes, the one to the right is called Little Pierre. The project started in 2022 and is expected to be completed in 2027. The dam will be raised 131 feet, tripling the capacity of the reservoir, used for drinking water in Denver. AMTK 29 was on the Winter Park Express just last Sunday. It was taken to Chicago on the Zephyr, and has now returned as one of the units on the Zephyr itself. The siding at Crescent is only 5,550 feet long, so it definitely one of the less-used sidings on the east slope of the Moffat. Note the rust that is clearly building up in the gondolas after sitting in the elements with no loads to help protect them. It would have been great for the dispatcher to have Leyden available today as it would have been the perfect spot for a meet with an eastbound BNSF oil train. Prior to this train, the last UP coal train I shot on the Moffat was in December 2024. That's not to suggest that was the last one that ran. There is a spurious track occupancy between the intermediate signal at MP 9.7 (at Kipling Street) and the east end of Leyden. Consequently, the signal at MP 9.7 was red. Since it is an intermediate and not an absolute signal, the crew does not need authority for the dispatcher to pass, but they do have to continue at restricting speed, prepared to stop short of any obstructions on the track.
