Power on the Beer Run seems to be changing a lot lately. BNSF will throw just about anything on there. I've seen everything from SD40-2s to SD70ACes. C44-9Ws to ES44DCs. On this day, an H2 C44-9W and a H1 C44-9W power the train. The two geeps in the back will serve as the Golden Switch power in the coming week.

In order to make it to the lower yard at Coors, train have to cross West 44th Avenue (the same road that the Colorado Railroad Museum is located on!) Trains cross 44th using a stoplight for protection. The stoplight doubles as the stop light at the intersection of 44th and Eldridge.

Nearly 12 miles west of Denver, the Beer Run is approach the switch at Terrell Junction on the Golden Sub. At Terrell Junction, trains have the option of going into the lower yard (switch reversed) or the upper yard (switch normal). In this case, the train will be going to the lower yard.

Approaching the end of the line, the Beer Run throttles up to make the final climb into the upper yard at Coors. A few cars drive along on 44th Avenue in the distance.

An SD75M (which unfortunately is no longer wearing the Warbonnet scheme) leads the westbound Beer Run toward the upper yard at Coors. The tracks here run along 44th Avenue and are about to pass underneath Highway 52.

This train might be running on BNSF's Golden Subdivision, which primarily serves to transport cars into and out of the Coors Brewing company, but this is not the so-called "Beer Run". It is actually the Golden Switch job. There are several industries that run along the line that have nothing to do with Coors that need to be switched. Here, the switch job is bringing a few cars into town.

A few miles outside of the Coors Factory, the westbound Beer Run comes to a stop at Terrell Junction. It is here that trains can either run straight into the west yard at Golden, or turn south (on the diverging route) and enter the east yard. The train must wait for permission from the Golden Yard to enter.

In between Kipling Parkway and Ward Road, the westbound Beer Run is moving along at track speed, around 15 MPH. The Beer Run makes two round trips per day (on an average day) between Denver and Golden.

It's about 9:30am and the First Beer Run is slowly making its way west through Arvada. For the past several weeks (if not months), the Beer Run has had one big (new) motor and a second smaller (old) motor. On this day, it was an ES44AC and an SD40-2. The train is approaching Garrison Street in this shot.

A look west down the tracks of BNSF's Golden Sub. The setting sun is hiding behind the Arvada water tower. Behind me, Wadsworth Blvd is in the process of being lowered underneath the tracks here. In the not-too-distant future, Light Rail will run along this alignment too.

Waiting for UP's dispatcher (DS-86) to get them a clear signal at C&S Junction, the "First Beer Run" sits shy of the grade crossing at Tennyson Street. I thought the power choice was particularly interesting...a year-old SD70ACe and a twenty-five year old SD40-2!

The westbound Beer Run makes its way down the grade into Coors North Yard alongside 44th Avenue. On this particular day, the inbound Beer Run was comprised entirely of loaded coal hoppers. This is the first time I can specifically remember seeing an SD60 on the Golden Sub.

About five and a half miles west of C&S Junction on BNSF's Golden Sub, the westbound Beer Run makes its way toward Coors around 2:30pm. Both SD40-2s on the point are now owned by FURX (FURX 7288 and FURX 8100).

For the past decade or so, two units has been the standard on the Beer Run between Denver and Golden. However, on this particular Saturday afternoon, the train was being led by four units (the fourth of which was a former ATSF B30-7). There was no crew on board and, in fact, Tennyson street had been cut!

At Terrell Junction, the "Beer Run" (headed for the Coors Brewery in Golden) makes a turn to the south. The diverging route will take the train into the east yard at Coors.
