CP 7020, painted in a military tribute scheme, rests in the siding at Hogan's Alley with the Denver skyline offering a nice backdrop in the distance. CP 7020 is an SD70ACu, and in fact started life as an SD90MAC! Progress Rail rebuilt 60 of them for Canadian Pacific (and 100 for UP SD9043MACs for Norfolk Southern). The rebuilt unit was re-designated as an SD70ACu.

Staring at the nose of CP 7020, tied down in the siding at Hogan's Alley in Denver. The unit is painted in Army Green in tribute to the military. The train is waiting for a fresh crew to take the train south on the Joint Line.

A look at the cab of the army-green SD70ACu on Canadian Pacific (now CPKC's) roster. The unit was unveiled just over four years ago in tribute to the military. The ribbon has a clever design that represents both Canada and the United States.

In 2019, Canadian Pacific painted five units in military-inspired paint schemes in tribute to the military. The units were unveiled on Remembrance Day (Canada's version of Veterans Day in the US). CP 7020 is one of the five units, and happened to be leading a southbound grain train through Denver on January 8, 2024.

CP 7020, one of five military tribute units on CP's roster, happened to lead a California-bound grain train through Denver. The train is tied down here on the siding in "Hogan's Alley", awaiting for a recrew. The grain train originated in Sweetwater, MT and is destined for Modesto, CA.

Of all the Class 1 railroads, CSX is probably the (US-based) Class 1 I've taken the fewest shots of. While no eastern railroad is particularly common in Colorado, CSX seems to be exceptionally rare in the Centennial State. Here, a CSX AC4400CW is second on a southbound CPKC intermodal train in Kendleton, TX.

While I was on a business trip in Texas, I had roughly two days to do some photography. I was hoping to get plenty of KCS Belle shots as that scheme will be fading in coming years with the creation of CPKC. One thing I was not expecting was to find a CP/CSX duo leading a train through south Texas! I was not complaining, however, as the red and blue contrast was a nice variation from the yellow and orange I'm used to seeing in Colorado.

In the small town of Beasley, TX, a CP ES44AC and a CSX AC4400CW (officially designated as a CM44AC) create an interesting contrast on the headend of a southbound intermodal train. The train consists mainly of orange Schneider containers.

A northbound unit tank train is tied down in the siding at McHattie, just a few hundred yards from the interlocking at Rosenberg where CPKC joins with UP's Glidden Subdivision. This siding is actually owned by Union Pacific, with CPKC ownership starting at the south end of the siding.

A relatively new ET44AC and an ES44AC, both sporting the KCS Retro-Belle scheme, cross over the Texas version of the Colorado River on the southern edge of the town of Wharton, TX. This train will be taking the siding at Wharton to tie down and wait for a new crew to continue the journey north of Houston.

A northbound manifest rounds the bend underneath US-59 and approaches a bridge over the (Texas) Colorado River that was built in 1905. For those that are wondering, this is a drone shot. No walking on railroad property occurred.

You do not see a very many palm trees in the Houston, TX area. However, there are some here and there. One such example is this lone (and relatively short) palm tree located just northeast of US-59 overpass at El Campo, TX, 65-70 miles southwest of Houston. A pair of KCS GEs leads a half-intermodal, half-manifest train through the scene.

A northbound mixed intermodal/manifest starts to pick up some speed after slowing through the town of El Campo, TX. The train is passing underneath US-59, which has signs along the route indicating it is the "future alignment for I-69". KCS 5007 is one of 25 ET44ACs on the roster, and probably the last units ever delivered in the KCS "Retro Belle" paint scheme.
