AMTK 184 is on the California Zephyr and wears the Phase 4 Heritage scheme. This is an adaptation of the relatively short-lived Phase 4 paint scheme that Amtrak used for about six years between 1999 and 2005. AMTK 156 wears the Phase 1 Heritage scheme. This is an adaptation of the "Bloody Nose" or "Pointless Arrow" scheme. This was the first official scheme that Amtrak had, and was used for about ten years, from 1971 to 1981. That will allow for quick loading in Denver and unloading on the new platform in Winter Park. And vice versa in the afternoons! Winter tends to be Amtrak's slow season, so they could afford to steal a few Superliners from long distance trains to make up the 7-car consist of the Winter Park Express. At the time of this shot, the Winter Park Express (Ski Train) was two days away from its inaugural run. Amtrak set aside a mighty fine looking unit for the train this winter.
