The two DPUs on the tail end of this westbound manifest are emerging from Tunnel 1. The first, of course, being a visitor from the north. At this point, however, Canadian Pacific no longer exists. The merger with Kansas City Southern has been official for a little over a year, and the new railroad is now CPKC. A handful of units have been repainted in the new scheme, though I have yet to see one in person.

I am always impressed that, nearly 30 years after the merger that created BNSF, there are still a few Warbonnets on the rails whose paint is actually still in really great shape. BNSF 766, the third unit on the Denver-Provo, is a great example. Granted this unit is actually lettered for BNSF, which means it happened after the merger in 1995, Warbonnets being lettered with BNSF only happened briefly after the merger.

BNSF 5804 is slowing to a stop at a red signal at the east end of Eisele (Clay). The switch is aligned for the siding and showing out of correspondence. DS-78 will try to get the switched locked up for the main. If you are not familiar with the terrain and are wondering about the tank cars in the distance, that is indeed the back part of the train as it wraps around Big Ten Curve. The crew can see the back of the train from this spot.
