A beautiful display of power (two SD40-2's in green and an Oakway SD60) sit on the MLAUDEN on the siding at Broomfield. The train is currently waiting for a fresh crew.

BNSF 7610 has only been out on the road for two week! Here, it is leading a very heavy (11,000+ tons) HLAUDEN1-17 through the S-curve near Burns Jct. The city of Broomfield is busy building a new road paralleling the tracks in the foreground.

North meets south! The southbound STCPDEN3-15 is on the main line ("bottom" track) while the QDENTAC1-19 is on the siding ("top" track). There is an interesting difference in elevation between the siding and the main at Broomfield.

A C44-9CW and two SD40-2's lead up the STCPDEN3-15 on the main at Broomfield. Winter is in full force in the high country in Colorado, covering the divide with a nice blanket of snow. BNSF 4195 will hold the main at Broomfield to wait for a northbound to pull into the clear in the siding.

A very rare engine indeed in 2005 is a classic General Electric "U-Boat". Built in the 1970's, CSX is one of the only class one railroads to still have active U-Boats on the roster. One of these rare units, CSX B36-7 #5867, made an appearance in Colorado on the MLAUDEN. At the time of this photo, the 5867 was one of 87 B36-7's still on CSX's roster (in the number range 5807-5925).

The HLAUDEN from Friday (5/20) was tied down in the hole at Broomfield, and was still sitting there Saturday afternoon. The power was very unique (and very colorful) with BNSF SD40-2 #7027 in Heritage 1, CSX B36-7 #5867 in Gray, and EMDX GP38-2 #745 in Blue.

Is it not at all uncommon to see a unit tank train carrying molten sulfur traversing the Front Range Sub. The train runs from Bonneville, WY to Galveston, TX using the symbol G-BNVGAT. The last day before the start of daylight savings time saw the G-BNVGAT-31 heading south through the S-curve near Burns Jct and the siding of Broomfield.

The S-curve just north of Burns Jct in in the perfect place to setup for late afternoon shots. MRL 313, MRL 330, and MRL 309 (on their way to be leased to KCS) lead BNSF's P-TACKCM2-10 on a very cold January afternoon.
