The final of four ET44ACs brought to Denver on BNSF's ZCHCDEN. While I realize it may be a bit redundant to post roster shots of all four units, I prefer getting good coverage of units that may be unique and are unlikely to be seen - at least by me - again in the future.

This "backward" roster shot of an ET44AC really lets you see the rather unique look to the back end of the radiator housing. It is quite large and has a descent slope to it. The single number board on the back is an interesting feature too. I wonder if this will be an option that individual railroads will go for...

If you are looking at this picture in the year 2020, then you are probably very used to seeing these units (ET44ACs) roaming the rails. It was back here in August of 2015 when GE sent some of them to Denver for testing in coal service to see how they'd hold up.

GE's new Tier 4 emission units, called ET44ACs, look very similar to ES44ACs. They do have a few key differences, however, such as the bulge sticking up along the top of the long hood, an increased slope on the radiator housing, and new grills along the air intakes.

The Hudson Local, which departed the siding of Hudson about 40 minutes earlier, is now holding in the siding at Irondale. After the Chicago-Denver Z-Train passes by, the local will follow on the main and clear up on a side track at "Conoco" (the refinery in Denver) to allow the eastbound Zephyr to get through.

It really isn't too often that you'll find eight units on the point of a train in 2015. And when you do, it is quite likely that not all of the units are actually online. Such is the case here, has the last four units (GE ET44ACs) are all Dead In Consist (shut down) for the trip in to Denver.

After running track speed (60 MPH) since Keensburg, the ZCHCDEN (Z-Train, Chicago to Denver) slows as it heads down the main at Irondale. Not much will slow this train down, as it is the hottest BNSF train that runs in to Denver. On this evening, the train includes a quartet of GE ET44ACs.

An eastbound BNSF manifest sits stopped west of the west switch at Irondale (and 88th Avenue). The train was looking at a red signal at the west end of Irondale. Despite having my scanner turned on, I never did hear why the dispatcher was holding the train west of Irondale. The train was still sitting there after departing to find other action.

A pacing shot, offering a full length view of this latest GEVO model from GE. It is just about a foot longer than the traditional ES44AC. Must need the extra foot for the equipment used to meet EPA Tier 4 emissions standards.

This shot offer a pretty good look at the radiator housing on GE's new Tier 4 emissions GEVO. It is noticeably larger and has a greater slope that previous iterations. The single number board in back is somewhat interesting too. Unlike the popular (with BNSF, anyway) ES44C4 - whose axle configuration is A1A-A1A - this prototype has all six axles powered.

At the west switch of Irondale, this BNSF manifest (with some power-shared UP power) has come to a stop. Here it will wait for at least one eastbound coal load.

At the south switch of Hazeltine, this double stack stops to wait for a bit as the dispatcher has no other place to put them! The train usually runs across the Overland Route through Wyoming into Nebraska, but a derailment in Emmett, KS has resulted in the train being rerouted. The train originated in Oakland, CA and is headed for Memphis, TN.

The longest passenger train in the United States heads into BNSF's 31st Street Yard. Once there, the train will stop for about 90 minutes to recrew and add a third unit to the consist for the trip over the Palmer Divide.
