How about this very new loft located across the field from Union Station and right next to the north end of the Joint Line!? An empty UP rail train passes the new lofts as well as the future location of Denver's Light Rail Hub. The dirt in the foreground will house a Light Rail station in 10 (or so) years. This is very close to the spot that Rio Grande regularly kept a pair of GP30s. Case-in-point is this photo from 1988. This is the oldest picture that I personally shot that I have on my site! By the time the HKCKDEN was approaching Walnut Street, however, it was freezing cold and rain was falling! A good looking consist led the Kansas City to Denver manifest, with one of only 25 C41-8W on BNSF's roster (as of the time of this photo) on the point. The Beer Run is coming into the 31st Street Yard with some very interesting power. A cascade green SD40-2 leads up a warbonnet C44-9W, a white face GP30 (now a GP39M), and a H1 B40-8. Take, for instance, BNSF 2475. Built roughly 45 years ago, this GP30 has been rebuilt and is now designated as a GP30u. Wonder how this will look in the New Image paint scheme!? I wasn't able to shoot the train on the main, but I did find the power sitting near the house in BNSF's yard. The units have barely been touched from the original BN paint. The sun, however, is in the western sky at this point as Amtrak is running about six hours late due to a BNSF derailment on the Brush Subdivision. Since the SD70ACe is more like its sibling the SD70MAC inside (even though it looks more like is cousing, the SD90MAC on the outside), hopefully this unit will be around for many years to come. Before today, I had never seen the track used (although I'm sure it is used regularly). The track runs on the south side of 48th Street under I-25, around the north end of a park, then across Washington Street and the Platte River and into the yard.
