A GP38-2 and an GP15-1 pull 13 cars through the OS at the Stock Yards (CP DS901) on the Belt Lead. Once clear of the OS, the train will make a reverse move and shove down the track to the right and tie down.

A UP yard job, which switches out some industries along the Belt Industrial Lead, heads west toward a red signal at the Stock Yards. The crew is going to call up the dispatcher and request a signal at the Stock Yards, followed by a signal on to the Stock Yards lead (seen up to the right) where it will drop its cars and the crew will be picked up by a van.

An interesting quartet of light power moves around near Utah Jct at the north end of North Yard. UP 1997 and UP 1980 are both SD40-2s, UP 4553 is an SD70M, and BNSF 7638 is ES44DC. The mix of newer and older power, along with a foreign unit (BNSF) is what makes this consist somewhat unusual.

The westbound Zephyr, running just a few minutes behind schedule, passes by a clear (green) signal at CP DS002. North Yard has a fair amount of cars in the background. The empty track alongside the Zephyr is BNSF's "New North Main". All other tracks in the foreground are owned by UP.

UP 1989 sits shut down near the ready tracks in North Yard. It has been rumored that it has been placed in storage due to a downturn in business on UP. If that is true, it may well be sitting here for weeks or months to come.

Rumor has it that UP 1989 has been placed in long term storage due to a downturn in business. If that's the case, it is being stored in an unusual spot. It is currently near the ready tracks in North Yard, along with an SD70ACe-T4 and an AC4400CW.

J.R. Simplot is an agricultural supplier that is based in Idaho and recently was in need of a new switcher for moving cars around the plant near Pocatello, ID. Not sure who they purchased this SW1000 from, but the paint scheme looks pretty sharp.

The Rocky Mountaineer's typical pair of GP40-3s used on the Rockies to the Red Rocks are receiving some maintenance in UP's North Yard. A former DRGW GP40-2 sits a few feet away on the same track.

A pair of GP40-3s, wearing the standard Rocky Mountaineer paint scheme, sit shut down on a track in UP's North Yard. Both units are getting worked on and the Rocky Mountaineer, running only Wednesday through Friday in July and August, continues to lease UP units in the meantime.

The two Rocky Mountaineer GP40-3s that have been missing from the Rocky Moutainteer "Rockies to the Red Rocks" train were spotted near the repair shop in UP's North Yard. Presumably, the Rocky Moutaineer has contract with UP to do some work on the units. You can see RMRX 8020 with several doors on its long hood open.
