The eastbound Rockies to the Red Rocks crosses over the Eagle River as it starts on the west end of Dotsero Cutoff. The mileposts here change from the distance to Denver via Pueblo (342 miles) to the distance to Denver direct over the Moffat (164 miles). The Eagle River, which follows Tennessee Pass on its west slope, joins the Colorado River here at Dotsero.

A pair of BNSF GE DPUs bring up the tail end of a westbound Denver-Provo manifest. Dotsero is where the Moffat (via the Dotsero cutoff) and Tennessee Pass converged on the journey west. You can see a leg of the branch that heads west toward Tennessee Pass in the shot. The train has just crossed over the Eagle river, which joins the Colorado River here at Dotsero.

At the west end of the Dotsero Cutoff, you find the small town of Dotsero. Here, the Eagle River, which Tennessee Pass follows for quite awhile, converges with the Colorado River. The Zephyr is crossing over the Eagle River and is in fact passing by the far west end of Tennessee Pass on a beautiful July day.

I love this picture. It just seems to peaceful. The Zephyr is on the Dotsero cutoff here between Dotsero and Range, following along the Colorado River. What more really needs to be said!?

Just east of Dotsero on the Dotsero Cutoff, track and time has been given out to Maintenance of Way so they can work their magic to keep things running smoothly. This high railing piece of equipment is setting on the track with track and time between Range and Dotsero.

Two mainlines converge (or diverge, depending on your point of view) at this location. This coal load is coming from Grand Junction and is headed toward the Dotsero Cutoff and the Moffat Mainline. To the left is of course Tennessee Pass, now defunct for nearly ten years.

Two SD70M's sit on the east leg of the wye at Dotsero. The SD70M's are on the point of a work train that has been tied down on the wye for the night.
