In November 2000, an accident took the siding out and it wasn't until March 14, 2006 that UP finally got the siding reopened. Now, the siding was lengthened by nearly 3000 feet at the same time, but it still took a very long time. There has been several hours of maintenance out of the cutoff, but Amtrak will force some trains to start moving in the afternoon, making for some good chasing after the morning lull. The train will wrap around the mountain in the foreground and head through the siding of Radium about two miles ahead of the train. The Colorado River runs on the right side of the image, and Gore Canyon is actually visible just off of center to the right in the distance. In this five minute exposure taken around 11:00pm, and eastbound manifest streaks east past the intermediate on the approach to Yarmony. All the trees and bushes were lit up by the headlight of the train. Note the signal dropping from green to red and the FRED flashing on the back of the train.
