Looking toward the westbound signals at West Sage, we see the siding diverge from the main track. It is interesting to note that Sage has not spent the entire past 20 years seeing zero traffic. On more than once occasion, UP has used Sage for temporary storage of cars (typically hoppers). Sage is located just seven (or so) miles from the "active" part of the west end of Tennessee Pass. The Minturn Local, out of Grand Junction, still makes weekly trips to the American Gypsum drywall plant in Gypsum, which is just over six miles east of Dotsero.

The signal on the mainline stands tall at West Sage, although it has not been active in twenty years. You can just barely make out the word "Sage" on the silver control box.

Looking west from Sage, the westernmost siding on Tennessee Pass, we see a little foliage amongst some very old ties and rusty rails.

Number 5 meets Number 6 at Dotsero! The eastbound California Zephyr (on the right) has been waiting here at Dotsero for over a half an hour, making it now over four hours late. It was waiting for its counterpart, the westbound California Zephyr (running three hours late) to appear.

Running nearly three hours late, Amtrak 5 leaves the Dotsero cutoff behind and curves west to follow the Rio Grande mainline west toward Glenwood Canyon. The track visible to the right of Amtrak is the south leg of wye connecting the Dotsero cutoff with Tennessee Pass.

Two engines and eleven cars, 52 axles in all, make their way through the open grasslands at Range. Amtrak is nearing the end of the Dotsero cutoff and will soon be heading into Glenwood Canyon!

The Minturn Local reaches the end of its run which is actually on the west end of the Tennessee Pass line at Gypsum. Note the Rio Grande style "35" MPH sign.
