Amtrak 6 is running about four hours late, which allows this shot to be possible! At this time of year, if Amtrak was running on time, it would be pitch black when Amtrak came through Summit.

The scenery and the speed of Amtrak will be changing soon! Amtrak is quickly approaching Helper, the transition point between the mountain scenery of Soldier Summit (and 30-40 MPH speeds) and the Utah desert (with 60-80 MPH speeds)!

You can see the signals in the distance with the west switch of Wash leading directly into the east switch of Wellington.

With its station stop complete, Amtrak prepares to depart east out of Grand Junction. The Grand Junction station is in very good condition, as far as Amtrak stations tend to go. This station is far more luxorious than the Salt Lake City depot!

Number 5 meets Number 6 at Dotsero! The eastbound California Zephyr (on the right) has been waiting here at Dotsero for over a half an hour, making it now over four hours late. It was waiting for its counterpart, the westbound California Zephyr (running three hours late) to appear.
