UP 7722 was built just about a year before this shot was taken and was delivered in July 2007. This was the first time that I can remember seeing an ES44AC on the point of a coal empty.

The Moffat doesn't see a whole lot of new power, so when an Evolution Series or an SD70ACe finds its way to the Moffat, its usually worth shooting! Here, UP 5335 leads the MNYPH near the bridge just east of Tolland.

This westbound manifest is holding the main at Tolland to wait for two westbounds ahead of it to get through the tunnel. Being only 3,000 feet long, the train appears a bit overpowered with eight units on the point!

DS-82 instructed the engineer of UP 4517 to stop just short of the grade crossing near the east end of East Portal. Talk about following instructions! The engineer came to a stop just exactly at the grade crossing, allowing traffic to pass in both directions unimpeded!

Two SD70Ms and an SD60M lead the eastbound Roper to North Yard manifest through the siding at East Portal. The train will stop shy of the grade crossing to allow six westbound to slowly work their way west through the Moffat Tunnel.

The original BNSF paint scheme! It didn't last very long, but there are still a fare number of Heritage I units on BNSF's roster. Here, BNSF 1122 leads this MDVPVJ-05 on the main at the east end of East Portal.

An eastbound BNSF manifest rolls through the siding at Tolland to meet with at least six westbound making their way up the hill. BNSF is leasing 25 AC4400CW from CIT Rail Resources (CEFX).

On the main at Tolland, this westbound Denver to Provo manifest hold to wait for an eastbound that is currently exiting the Moffat Tunnel. The eastbound will have to hold on the siding at Tolland for at least six westbounds!

Another summer season is just about in the books as the last westbound Ski Train (for the Summer of 2007) heads past the grade crossing at East Portal. It is a crystal clear morning in the Colorado high country. The Ski Train met an eastbound coal load at Tolland and the Moffat Tunnel has just finished venting.

With it's travels on the eastern side of the Continental Divide nearly complete, Amtrak 5 moves slowly west through the siding at Tolland. Amtrak is in the siding because it is meeting an eastbound coal load which is just entering Tolland (on the main) at the time this picture was taken.

Union Pacific is investing a lot of money in the Moffat lately. The Moffat has not received too much "major" maintenance since the SP/UP merger…until now. A ballast train working in the Moffat Tunnel heading east is tied down on the siding at Tolland. Three SD60M's provide the power for the ballast train. The Aspens are starting to change up at altitude.

Even though it is almost June in Colorado, never under estimate Colorado weather! A cold front is starting to seep over the divide and the clouds are starting to gather. In the mean time, UP 6590 heads up an eastbound coal train (with unpatched SP 257) crossing a very full South Boulder Creek just east of Tolland.

At the grade crossing at East Portal, this westbound autorack train is about to enter the Moffat Tunnel to continue its journey west. Sure is great seeing a Rio Grande Tunnel Motor on the point! This was, however, rather early on in my photography career, so the quality is not the best.
