This is the second consecutive day that the train is running with three P42DCs. Not sure why...perhaps just a power move to California. This is at Utah Junction at the north end of North Yard. The Zephyr is on the main track, the North Yard siding the next track to the right. The next track to the right is actually the North Yard lead, and it is not in CTC limits. This is why there are only two sets of signals on the bridge. The crew is starting the journey to Bond, where there will be a crew change to then take the train on the Grand Junction. First, the train passing under the signal bridge to the right is UP's MGJNY. Coming off the Moffat, the train is entering in Track 5 here at North Yard for classification. Next to it, the train on the left under the signal bridge is BNSF's HPVODEN, coming from Provo, UT. This train had been following the MGJNY just a few blocks back since Cliff and, out of necessity, is now passing it here in Denver. Meanwhile, a BNSF yard job is working on building a double stack train to the left, with the classic EMDs kicking up exhaust like they should be Alcos! The track crossing perpendicular to many of the other through the scene is the Belt Industrial Lead which leads to UP's Greeley Sub. The standard Rocky Mountaineer power is currently be worked on, so UP has leased the SD70Ms as substitute power. In addition to being the north end of North Yard, the main track for UP's Moffat Tunnel Sub and the main track for BNSF's Front Range Sub both cross UP's Belt Industrial Lead which leads to UP's Greeley Sub. A crazy number of tracks, switches, and signals are at this control point. Here, a red signal protects the diamond where BNSF's Front Range Sub and UP's Belt Industrial Lead cross. UP 1502 was built in in May 1971 as a GP40 for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O 3776). It was later sold to Espee, becoming SP 7124, before eventually being rebuilt to Dash-2 specs and falling to UP ownership. Looking good for being 52 years old! Meanwhile, a yard job has pulled out of North Yard, on the North Yard Siding. The yard job is currently blocking the entrance into North Yard, hence to necessity for the manifest to hold out on the main.
