Denver's skyline pokes up above the cold morning fog as the ZSCDV-17 heads east into town. The train is hauling nothing but UPS trailers, bound for the intermodal ramp at 36th street.

The ZSCDV once ran over the Moffat daily as the ZRODV. The train was moved off the Moffat and onto the Greeley Sub up to the Overland route in 2002. On November 16, a derailment forced the Z-train to once again run over the Moffat. At only 1,500 feet, the train resembles Rio Grande's Railblazer of the 1980's.

A lot of building have creeped up out near the cracking tower at Chemical over the past 20 years. Regardless of some of the clutter in the background, the AOE stills looks good as it passes the new intermediate signal at Chemical.

On a rather "blah" morning as far as the weather goes, the American Orient Express makes its way west on its six day journey to San Francisco. Amtrak 188 on the point looks like it could use some sanding and painting.

Union Pacific has slowly been updating the signals on the Moffat with the latest-and-greatest in technology. While it is nice to see UP investing in the Moffat, it is sad to see the old D&RGW signals disappearing. On August 9, 2005, UP flipped the switch on the new signals between (and including) West Leyden and West Rocky. Here, UP 6045 East passes the new signal (and the old signals, now turned away from the track) at Chemical.

A unit coal train led by two C44AC-CTE's (both with wings and flags) passes the intermediate signal between Leyden and Rocky known as Chemical. The shadows were just barely below the rail head for this shot!

This little buggy ran ahead of the rest of the tie gang, taking a huge pile of ties from the side of the tracks and dropping one off every few feet so they could be replaced.

UP 6939 is the last remaining DDA40X in service. Union Pacific uses it for special moves, typically UP passenger trains moved executives around. Such was the case on this day when the DD40 and train passed over the Moffat Road.

With the Denver Skyline behind (right side of the picture) the summer Ski Train is moving west. This is not the typical summer Ski Train, however. This train has been chartered for a dinner special that left Union Station around 5:00pm. The train will proceed west to Tabernash, wye, and return back to Denver.
