With the Denver Skyline behind (right side of the picture) the summer Ski Train is moving west. This is not the typical summer Ski Train, however. This train has been chartered for a dinner special that left Union Station around 5:00pm. The train will proceed west to Tabernash, wye, and return back to Denver.

Although "Genesis" P42s are the standard power on the California Zephyr these days, a P32-8 does appear from time to time. Such is the case on this evening as Amtrak 6 is approaching Crescent with P42 #139 and P32-8 #505.

The specially chartered Ski Train just left the siding of Crescent. Because this train has been chartered, it is heading westbound in the evening. This makes for some outstanding pictures because the train is typically heading away from the sun during its normal runs.
