In the last ten years though, it is very common for the Zephyr to have eight Superliners: three sleepers, three coaches, a diner and a lounge car. The line is about to see a couple trains daily, working to clean up Uranium Tailings near Moab. The project will move 12 million tons of tailings over the next 10-20 years! UP 6417, seen here as the end DPU on an eastbound coal load in front of the Denver skyline, has worn a yellow patch now for nearly seven years! It's had clear signals since Tabernash, only having to stop once to check a dragging equipment detector near Rollins. On this night, Amtrak was streaking the photographer! Temperature was about 22 degrees, wind was blowing hard and the snow was falling.
