The Rocky Local is headed east (geographic south), back toward the mainline at Rocky. This shot was taken at the grade crossing at the (former) west entrance to Rocky Flats. Now that the plant is closed, the guard station has been removed, and the public is free to access the crossing.

With the work window currently keeping the Moffat closed up the hill, the Rocky Local does not need to worry about meeting any eastbounds as it enters the block on the main at Rocky. Just up ahead, the train will stop and back up the Rocky Spur to deliver its five hoppers.

Tunnel motor back on the Moffat!? Well, yes, although it is not quite wearing the proper colors…twenty years ago, who would have imaged a train on the Moffat that included a Kansas City Southern T-2 in the consist? Such was the case on this morning as the eastbound Provo to Denver heads east out of Rocky while a train they just met heads west around Big Ten in the background.

A long BNSF covered hopper train waits on the main track at Rocky for a clear signal to continue east. As is often the case, winter hit Colorado in mid-March, bringing lots of cold weather, snow, and fog!

For the first six runs of the 2006 season, the Ski Train did not have the typical sight of the Kansas bringing up the rear of the train. The Kansas was at Burnham being repainted. By January 14th, the paint job had been completed and the car was back in service looking very sharp!
