One of the advantages of having two main lines both controlled by CTC is the ability to run two (or more) trains in the same direction without worrying about speed. Here, a Utah Railway coal train (led by UP power) on main two is trying to pass a BNSF manifest on main one.

Main two (the track to the left in the picture) is undergoing track and time. Thus, this BNSF manifest must run through the center siding at Gilluly to meet an eastbound coming on main one. The unit in the picture is actually the last DPU unit on the train. Note US 6 running across the mountain in the background.

East meets west! A westbound Utah Railway coal load sits stopped on main two (foreground) waiting for an eastbound coal empty on main one. Main two is undergoing maintenance further west, so the Utah coal trainwill wait for the eastbound to pass before crossing over to main one.
