A pair of CPKC units (one CP, one KCS) are quite a ways from home as they lead a coal empty north on the Greeley Sub. The train is slowing for the grade crossing at MP 29.99 (County Road 22). A previous train reported that the main lights and gates were working, but the lights on one of the gates were broken off and hanging down. Consequently, an "XH" order was placed on the crossing. This requires all trains to slow to ensure no cars are going through the crossing when they shouldn't.

A visitor from the north! This Canadian National C44-9W is spending some time on UP rails, leading the MNPDV (North Platte to Denver manifest) south on the Greeley Sub.

The conductor on the MNPDV offers up a friendly wave to the photographer, reaching out of a unit rather rare to Colorado. A CN C44-9W (original Illinois Central) is on the point, paired with a UP SD70M for this southbound just south of Ft Lupton.

South of Ft Lupton, at MP 23, UP's MNPDV-24 heads south on the Greeley Sub with a Canadian National (originally an Illinois Central) C44-9W leading. The train consists of double stacks at the front and autoracks at the back. There is a lone tank car cut in to the middle of the autoracks, apparently by mistake!

A colorful consist of seven units leads a northbound auto rack train underneath the E-470 overpass between Hazeltine and Brighton on UP's Greeley Sub. In the consist, we have UP 1988 (Katy heritage unit) 2nd, UP 1989 (DRGW heritage unit) 5th, and a Norfolk Southern unit 6th.

After spending about 45 minutes putting their train together and running an air test, seven units lead this light auto rack train north on the Greeley Sub. In the foreground, an SUV passes by, likely unaware of the approaching train, on the E-470 toll road that partially loops around Denver.

About 20 minutes before the sun will disappear behind the mountains to the west, UP 9013 leads a manifest south toward Denver on the Greeley Sub. A few miles to the south, the train will be taking the siding at Brighton. But for now, it is running on clear (green) signals and moving at track speed.

This northbound manifest is moving at close to track speed (45 MPH) as it heads down the mainline at Brighton. A bit of dust is getting kicked up along the right of way.

UP 5822 slowly leads the MNPNY south toward a yellow (approach) signal at the north end of Brighton. The train will meet its counterpart, the MNYNP, which is out of Hazeltine (the next siding to the south).

On the approach to Bridge Street (and the Brighton Depot), Governor Ritter's train slows as it prepares for its first whistle stop. The train will pause for about a half hour while Ritter speaks to constituents.

This southbound Z-Train (the ZSCDV-08) was wasting no time on its way south on the Greeley Sub. The two units were keeping the train at track speed (right around 60 MPH) along Highway 85. The train had doublestacks at the front and UPS trailers on the rear.

There are 307 SD9043MACs currently on UP's roster as of this photo. Their number range is 8000 to 8308 (UP 8025 and 8088 have been retired). This unit, UP 8000, is the "class unit" for the SD9043 series.

Just north of Brighton, UP 8357 leads the MNYNP-07 north on the Greeley Sub. I like the elephant-style EMD power on the point, an SD70ACe and two SD9043MACs.

Just north of Brighton, this coal empty is passing through the fruited plains of eastern Colorado. Upon reaching North Yard, six units will be added to the point of this coal empty and it will run west to a mine on the North Fork branch near Grand Junction, CO.
