There is a lot of green to be found at the "top of the hill" at Palmer Lake along the Joint Line in Colorado. BNSF's Denver to Kansas City (HDENKCK) has an elephant-style lash-up (including a Warbonnet) as the train enter the single track CTC.

The Joint Line in Colorado between Union Pacific and BNSF officially ends (at its southern point) at Bragdon. Here, the BNSF track is the western track, leading to the BNSF yard in Pueblo. Likewise, the UP track is the eastern track, leading to their yard. Here, a BNSF manifest is on the main track (the siding of Bragdon in the foreground) as it heads for Pueblo.

Once arriving in Pueblo, south coal loads use the Pueblo Subdivision to head south into Texas. Train use the Pueblo Sub to La Juanta and then the Boise City Sub to Dalhart, TX. Northbound empties return from Dalhart on the Twin Peaks Sub and the Spanish Peaks Sub via Trinidad. Here, a coal load is headed southeast on the Pueblo Sub at Baxter.

Many years ago at NA Junction, the ATSF and the Missouri Pacific came together to share the ATSF track into Pueblo. After the MoPac/UP merger, Rio Grande actually gained trackage rights to Kansas City on the MoPac line from NA Junction. After the UP/SP merger, UP sold the line to short line railroads and it is hardly used today. BNSF train, however, use the former ATSF line (now the Pueblo Sub) to make it to La Junta. Here, a coal load leaves CTC behind in favor of TWC for the trip to La Junta.

No trains, unfortunately, in this picture...this is a look from NA Junction down the former MoPac line east to Kansas. Had things worked out differently with Tennessee Pass, this line might seen coal trains on a daily basis heading east out of Colorado. Instead, UP decided to mothball this route and use the KP (and the Moffat) for its trains instead.
