It took crews about 48 hours to cleanup, repair and reopen the tracks through the Littleton Trench after the derailment on January 17, 2009. A little over a week later, a coal load heads south on Main 3, leaving the trench behind. A couple sets of Herzog trains work on Main 1 in the distance.

Just south of Chatfield Reservoir is Acequia. The tracks diverge from US-85 along here, but the High Line Canal Trail follows the tracks, offering shots like this one. This southbound coal load has just started on the double track portion of the Joint Line and is in Run 8 for the trip to Palmer Lake.

BNSF has a handful of blue CEFX AC4400CW leasers on the system. They seem to run primarily between the Powder River Basin and Texas. Which means we see a lot of them on the Joint Line in Colorado!

This southbound has the first mile of its 120 mile journey south to Pueblo in the bag! A new SD70ACe, with ice cycles hanging off the radiator housing, approaching Walnut Street in Denver. The train is currently copying a warrant to proceed into the Track Warrant limits around MP 12.

Kicking up some snow and running on a clear signal! This southbound coal load is approaching Kalamath Street near I-25 and Alameda Avenue. For those not familiar with the area, I'm well clear of the track, shooting through a curve with 300mm lens!

After the derailment here a week earlier, crews are working to rebuild a retaining wall taken out as a result of the derailment. Crews completely dug out the dirt behind the wall. After rebuilding the wall, the dirt will be replaced, followed by ballast, followed by the northbound Light Rail track.

About 48 hours after the derailment here in the Littleton Trench a week ago, crews were able to clear and rebuild the freight tracks. However, while Light Rail is being rebuilt, freight traffic is restricted to Main 3. Such is the case here, as a southbound coal load passes through the Form B, give plenty of bell and whistle to the men and equipment in the area.

This northbound manifest has a really nice consist with an H1 C44-9W followed by a pair of New Image ES44DC's. The train is approaching Walnut Street and will pull up to 20th Street to wait for permission to enter the yard.

I figure it is also worth posting pictures of Warbonnets, even if they are just sitting around at the time of the shot! A C40-8W and an SD75M are sitting, waiting for their next assignment.

Somewhat obscured by trees, BNSF's HDENLAU (Denver, CO to Laurel, MT) is working on assembling its train in the yard. Once its air test is complete, it'll head north toward the Front Range Sub and points beyond.

An eastbound coal load approaches Little Ten at the west end of Rocky. The train is actually heading north (by the compass), but soon will make a long 150-ish degree curve toward the south and then back to the east.

You can visibly see the decrease in snow as the tracks lose altitude along the Front Range. Above this train, you can see the tracks going through Clay. The train itself is now at Rocky, and there is considerably less snow. Note the mid-train swing helpers about to go through Little Ten Curve.

A great way to finish off the day was with this Denver, CO to Laurel, MT freight (HDENLAU) at Broomfield. I shot the train a few hours earlier preparing its train for departure from the yard. Here, the train has a track warrant all the way to Longs Peak, so it won't be making a stop anytime soon!
