This particular Zephyr departed Chicago about an hour late as it had to pick up Superliners for the Winter Park Express (the new Ski Train). It also ended up having an SD70MAC added in the midwest. With a top speed of 70 MPH, that also slowed the train down a bit. Then, the SD70MAC was removed in Denver, along with the Superliners. Not bad, considering winter is typically the slow season for Amtrak. It's not uncommon for the Zephyr to only have 6 or 7 Superliners this time of year. An eastbound Provo-Lincoln manifest slowly rolls along in the siding at Leyden. The Grand Junction based crew does not have enough time remaining to make it in to Denver, so a relief crew will greet the train at the east end of Leyden. The train is a good length and, as is generally the case with BNSF trains on the Moffat, it is primarily composed of tank cars.
