The shoulder of CO-72 just west of CO-93 is a great place to pull over and watch trains as they move along the base of the Rockies at Eisele (formerly Clay), just west of Big Ten Loop. Here, a west coal empty heads west on the main.

An extended California Zephyr heads west of Leyden on a sunny March morning. Amtrak this morning has ten Superliners, including two Sightseer Lounge cars! That's because the entire train has been rented out for an event known as "Train Jam". The entire train is carrying software gaming developers on their way to the "Game Developers Conference" in San Francisco. Because the entire train has been rented out, and because all passengers have a common destinations, Amtrak will not be stopping at most of the stations along the route. Mainly stations that include a crew change.

The Westbound Zephyr, with a few extra Superliners that bring the total to ten, charges west of Leyden with the Denver skyline silhouetted in morning mist in the distance.

The Westbound Zephyr knocks down a clear signal at the east end of Plain. The train is running precisely on time this morning.

Running right on time, we find the annual "Train Jam" Zephyr heading west on the main at Plain. "Train Jam" is an event in which the entire train is rented out by a single group that bring along software gaming developers to travel by train to the annual Gaming Developers Conference held in San Francisco. Amtrak has added an extra sleeper, an extra coach, and an extra lounge car compared to the standard Zephyr compliment for the event.

This is not a particularly common sight...finding a Sightseer Lounge car as the last car on the Zephyr! This is due to the fact that this is actually the second of two lounge cars on this westbound Zephyr. The reason? The entire train has been booked for "Train Jam", and Amtrak has added an extra lounge car for the journey.
