The cafe is open for the trip up and the trip back, allowing passengers to buy a variety of food and drink. The cafe car attendant is based in Chicago, and spends 2-3 weeks in Denver, away from home, to work and serve customers on the journey. Most folks that order in the morning get coffee, hot chocolate, or tea. Quite a few bar selections are served for the return trip to Denver. However, for the Winter Park Express, the car is reconfigured with tables. This makes a lot of sense for the train as most passengers here are looking for a place to sit and eat on the way to or from the slopes, rather than just sit and look out at the scenery, which is common on long distance trains.
