The train was parked on Track 101 in the yard, as it about to enter CTC on Main 1 of the Butte Subdivision. The lighting could not have been better for this departure. The train is an Employee Appreciation Special, which BNSF runs from time to time. BNSF employees and their families were welcome to board the train in Alliance, NE for a trip over Crawford Hill. The two units are numbered 1776 and 2026, with 2026 seen here on the east end of a BNSF Employee Appreciation Special, crossing the Niobrara River near Marsland, NE. The train is creeping along at no more than 10 MPH. This particular train loaded at the Black Thunder Mine in the Powder River Basin, and is headed to a power plant in Georgia. The crew received permission to make a reverse move on Main 1 back to Belmont and, eventually, Alliance. You can see the tracks in the distance, several thousand feet away (by rail).
