Once complete, the crews will pack up and head back to Denver. The unit will remain on the house track at Rocky until a train, most likely a BNSF Provo-Denver, can pick up the unit and take it back to Denver. This was just removed from BNSF 5767, sitting in the house track at Rocky. The loader will take the wheel set to a flat bed truck that is waiting to receive the wheel set so it can be taken back to Denver. A bad traction motor had to be removed from under the unit before the unit could be moved. I suspect the traction motor seized, meaning the wheels were not freely rotating. A dummy wheel set has been placed on the rails and will be slid under the unit and used until it can get to a shop and have a new traction motor wheel set added. The dummy wheel set (meaning it has no traction motor) will temporarily replace the wheel set currently under the unit (that has a traction motor) until the unit can make it to the shop. Typically, an engine is only set out if there is something wrong with the wheels and/or traction motors. So far, no construction has started on any houses in the new Canyon Pines neighborhood, the main road for which is just visible along the top of the frame. There is still a fair amount of snow on the ground here from multiple storms the week before that left nearly a foot of snow on the ground. They will pull west on Main 1 to clear the signal at C&S, then get a light to cross over to Main 2 and the North Yard siding to head back east. In the distance, you can just see the tail end of the westbound Zephyr on Main 2. One additional note of interest...UP 6345 was original SP 296! After getting the unit added, waiting for the Zephyr, and performing an air test, the oil train will be ready to head west. In the distance, you can see the tail end of an eastbound oil load that arrived a few hours earlier. That power will be removed from the train before it departs east for the KP. The unit will be added to the point of a westbound empty oil train. A few years ago, UP laid off all of the engine hostlers in Denver. These hostlers would make sure power changes like this were done before the road crew showed up.
