Potpourri Power! This westbound BNSF Denver-Provo has a Heritage 2 C44-9W, a New Image ES44DC, and a Heritage C44-9W. The train is just west of Leyden, approaching a clear intermediate at MP 14.5.

The original Heritage paint scheme is becoming less common, so it always seems appropriate to grab a quick roster shot when possible. The paint still looks great on BNSF 1119, third unit out on BNSF's Denver-Provo on this first day of February.

The evening prior to this shot, I got a shot of a Provo-Lincoln here at Leyden. The crew that brought that train in last night stayed the night in a hotel and is now taking this Denver-Provo back west today. The train is taking the siding for a meet with an eastbound coal load that is currently at Plain.

A KCS unit showing up on the Moffat does not happen every day. And, even less common is two KCS units! But two just happened to be added as DPUs on the tail end of this Provo-Lincoln as it heads east out of Leyden.

A few days earlier, BNSF snuck a westbound (empty) oil train over the Moffat during the night. It had a pair of Kansas City Southern Belle's for power! Turns out that power was added as DPUs to the Provo-Lincoln yesterday! Just happened to catch the SD70ACe and ES44AC as they rolled past the long-abandoned depot at Leyden.

Four BNSF units lead this eastbound Provo-Lincoln manifest down the main at Leyden. The second unit is a somewhat faded SD70MAC...something of a rarity on the Moffat.

Need a tank car? The BNSF manifests that run on the Moffat are almost entirely dominated by tank cars. Most of their trackage rights trains are probably 70%+ tank cars these days. A westbound Denver-Provo waits in the siding as an eastbound Provo-Lincoln rolls down the main. The eastbound isn't going too quickly as it is following the West Local and, as such, running on yellows.

The westbound Denver-Provo is about to knock down a signal and take the siding at Leyden. UP's eastbound West Local has completed its work on the Rocky Spur and is now headed back toward North Yard.

A relatively short (and relatively light) Denver-Provo just has three units for power today. No DPUs on the tail end. The train is approaching a diverging approach (red over yellow) signal at East Leyden. The train will take the siding to meet two eastbounds.

Light is rapidly vanishing from the sky as a BNSF Provo-Denver sits at a red signal in the siding at Leyden. The train has actually been here for about five hours. BNSF had "no room at the inn", holding the train out here at Leyden until some space could be made. A new crew is onboard now, but DS-86 will get the eastbound Zephyr around the train before getting it a light to continue east.

A visitor from the north...sort of...In 1998, Canadian National purchased the Illinois Central railroad. However, CN still identifies the former IC units on its roster. This C40-8W is one of only 42 such units Illinois Central had. Although it now wears standard Canadian National colors, a small "IC" is painted on the cab, indicating the heritage of the unit.

An ET44C4, a Canadian National (lettered as Illinois Central on the cab) C40-8W, and an SD70ACe make for an interesting trio on the point of BNSF's Denver-Provo as it approaches a clear signal at the west end of Leyden.

BNSF's Denver-Provo works its way west on the main at Leyden on an warm, overcast morning. Don't usually get the chance to shoot from the north side of the tracks at Leyden, but the cloudy day presented a nice opportunity to do so.

Under mostly cloudy (albeit thin clouds) skies, a westbound BNSF sand train slowly makes its way out of Leyden on the Moffat. BNSF is actually doing a lot to keep traffic levels on the Moffat up, and to keep a bit of variety running, too.
