While on a road trip in California and Arizona, I happened to catch the hottest train on BNSF's system. This is the ZNBYWSP9-25A, which is mainly composed of UPS, FedEx, and Amazon trailers. The train is on Main 1 here, just west of Kingman, AZ. Main 1 and Main 2 are on two different grades here, so Main 2 is not in sight.

Not a normal picture for ColoradoRailfan, to be sure! While on a road trip, I stopped to get this shot of a westbound baretable train just west of Ibis on the Needles Sub (near Needles, CA). There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the temperature was 115°F!

A pair of ES44C4s lead a westbound baretable train just west of Ibis on BNSF's Needles Subdivision in southern California. The train is on Main 1 here, which has a slightly lesser grade than Main 2 just west of Ibis.

After entering in to the upper yard in Golden, a brakeman on BNSF's Golden Switch realigns the derail at the east end of the yard. From here, the crew will tie down their train and call it a day.

BNSF's Golden Switch is crossing 44th Avenue and entering BNSF's upper yard in Golden. In Golden, you'll find a lower yard, which is where the cars to and from Coors go, and an upper yard, which is where the cars along the Golden Sub go that are not destined for Coors. BNSF runs a local out of the Golden to switch industries along the line. The cars are then brought back to the upper yard where a train is built to take them to Denver.

The sun catches the Golden Switch at a cool angle as the train passes by a puddle near the entrance to BNSF's upper yard in Golden.

This shot was appropriate for the longest day of the year as it is only in the summer months that the sun is far enough to the north in the evening to light the this side of the train. The train is getting close to the upper yard in Golden.

This is a shot I have wanted to shoot for awhile, but I never seem to be around when a train is inbound...until this day! A pair of SD70MACs approach the bridge at MP 14.23 on BNSF's Golden Sub, headed for the upper yard at Golden.

BNSF's Golden Switch is returning to the upper yard in Golden with two SD70MACs and a dozen cars. The cars have been picked up from industries along the line during the day. The train is just west of Ward Road about two miles away from the yard.

BNSF's upper yard in Golden is protected by a derail. After entering in to the yard limits this brakeman is realigning the derail to the "derail" position. The power will then continue to the yard office and the crew will tie it down for the night.

A pair of SD40-2s crosses 44th Avenue in Golden. The crew has finished their work for the day and they are headed for the yard office to tie the train down. Love the decorative pinwheels on BNSF 1833!

Wow! This was an amazing find in the middle of Colorado. One of Canadian National's 42 C40-8Ws showed up on this eastbound BNSF Provo-Lincoln manifests. This is one of the lowest numbered units on the CN roster, and one of very few standard cabs still wandering the rails on Class 1 railroads.

This BNSF Warbonnet looks to be in very good shape, considering how long its been since a paint job! A lot of Warbonnets these days are referred to as a "Pink Bonnet" because the red has faded so much. This one, fourth on this eastbound, looks good.
